Meet the Design Team

While we have lots and lots of guest designers working with us, we also have a core Design Team here at Mixed Up. They are the lifeblood of the magazine and are also my friends and supporters, who have an instrumental role in shaping the magazine content. Meet my heroes…. (and me, I’m here too!), Katy x

Katy Leitch

Katy Leitch

Editor

Katy says… “I’m the very proud founder, editor and owner of Mixed Up. I worked for several years in a publishing house before deciding to go it alone and start my own business. I’ve always loved the arts and have degrees in art history. My first love was pottery but I found paper arts about 12 years ago and have been hooked ever since; other hobbies have come and gone, but my love of ink, paint and paper has stayed with me. I am a bit of a stampaholic and (much to the exasperation of my husband) a hoarder of art supplies! It’s a constant joy to share wonderful arty inspiration with like-minded people.”

Debs Wainwright

Design Team

Debs says… “I have always loved to draw and had to make a choice when I left school whether to go to Art College or take up an apprenticeship in hairdressing: I chose the latter, but my love of creating never left me. I dabbled with oils for a while in my early 20s, but Motherhood soon got in the way and so I put my paints away. They stayed away for nearly 30 years, until one day in 2013, and that spark was rekindled and now burns with so much passion that I physically ache if I do not get my creativity time.”

Nikki Killinger

Design Team

Nikki says…”I’m originally from the Dorset Jurassic Coast, and started making jewellery from real fossils at the age of 14.  I have always loved art and my dad was an oil painter, we actually had an 8ft Haywain painting on our living room wall when I was young. I haven’t found if that oil painter is in me yet, but I love mixed media, painting, stamping, jewellery, polymer clay, resin, and mixing it all together when I can. I would say ‘No style is my style’ as my makes can be slightly eclectic!”

Corrie Herriman

Corrie Herriman

Design Team

Corrie says… “My name is Corrie Herriman, I live in Venlo, the Netherlands and besides crafting also love eating, holidaying, cooking, walking and reading… When I am not doing the above you will find me in my craft room where I will be getting painty and inky. I have been crafting for most of my life but got really busy with it after I stopped working in 2010. I love art journalling, mixed media and occasionally altering things like books and boxes. My favourite materials are acrylic paints and stamps and use them profusely in my projects!”

Leslie Lineberry

Leslie Lineberry

Design Team

Leslie says… “A happy hello from Montana in the Northwestern United States! During the week I manage an office, but when the weekend arrives you’ll find me in my little art studio playing with paint. Over the years I have painted in oil, watercolour, ink and acrylic, dabbled in pottery and clay sculpture, knitted, quilted, weaved and done beadwork: I am a self-proclaimed ‘Hobby Hoarder’. My passion is Mixed Media with an emphasis on Found Object Art and if you ask me my favorite colour, I’d tell you ‘rust’. I am a quirky soul, so don’t be surprised if you see a parmesan cheese lid, a hair curler, a gear, a cocktail fork and a bike chain on one of my canvases.”

Riikka Kovasin

Riikka Kovasin

Design Team

Riikka Kovasin is a Finnish mixed media crafter whose passion is to get her fingers into paints and mediums after a work day. Her first medium of love was gesso, then came the mists but nowadays she finds herself more and more reaching for the watercolor sets. Luckily the little Ikea Råskog trolley she keeps in the living room has a good choice of mediums to play with!

Erica says…. “I’m Erica and I live in Cardiff, South Wales, UK. I have been crafting for over 20 years now (scary!). I started out from an art background, having a Fine Art degree but I took a job in a craft shop and I was hooked! I have done various jobs in the craft industry from demonstrator, owning my own shop to now running workshops and demos locally.

Lisa Taggart

Lisa Taggart

Design Team

Lisa says…. “I live in beautiful countryside close to the Mourne mountains in Northern Ireland with my Partner Paul, cat and two dogs. My children have long since flown the nest but having filled their bedrooms with my art materials and reduced my working week to 3 days the real me has finally emerged!  I’ve always been ‘arty’ and creative and watercolour painting was my first love. I have a passion for colour and texture and all things inky. Mixed media is my current love and I adore creating canvases with paints, pastes stencils and stamps. I have met so many amazing talented people along the way and am really enjoying this exciting creative journey.”

Darlene Madden

Darlene Madden

Design Team

Darlene says… “I am a very grateful full time artist/instructor living in Alberta, Canada. Creating has been an interest of mine my entire life, in one way or another. When I started playing in the world of mixed media, I knew I had found my forever home! The main tools in my toolbox are polymer clay, glass for mosaics, laces and trims (a girl needs some softness right?), found objects and vintage jewellery. Recently I have discovered the wonderful world of encaustic and now the house is filled with the wonderful aroma of beeswax; in these cold Canadian winters it helps to remind me that winter is just one of four seasons. My husband Gord and I have 5 wonderful grown children and 7 (soon to be 8) grandchildren that fill our lives with giggles and joyful times.”

She teaches at That’s Crafty!.

Carol Fox

Carol Fox

Design Team

Carol says… “I live in the UK in a little seaside town on the East Anglian Coast. I enjoy many types of crafting but I especially enjoy paint. It has taken me a long while to realise that I don’t really do messy, even my grungy makes turn out all tidy and carefully constructed, so I don’t try now. I let my OCD flow and call my style ‘tidy grunge’. When not crafting I enjoy being outdoors, either on the beach or in the garden, so If you can’t find me in my craft room I am usually around somewhere with my iPod in my ears and crochet in my hands planning my next crafting project.”

Betsy Skagen

Betsy Skagen

Design Team

Betsy built her eclectic style upon a foundation of good design principles, forged from years as a marketing professional. A few of her favourite subject matters include circus, mid-century graphics, and vintage ephemera. Betsy lives in the “arctic circle” of Minnesota, where long winters allow plenty of time for crafting.

Chrissy Colón

Chrissy Colón

Design Team

Chrissy says… “My name is Chrissy Colón and I am an artful and wildly creative soul. It is my passion to blend the ordinary with the unusual to produce pieces that can be described as eclectic and technical with a splash of whimsy, a healthy dash of imagination. I prefer to walk on the fringe of traditional and the expected. My chemistry set includes mixing colours, patterns, and motifs in what I like to call a cultural fusion. Ripping the proverbial box a new one and smashing the mould of traditional are my favorite past-times. Currently, I have the privilege of being the team administrator for Sandra Evertson’s Relics & Artifacts®. I am also proud to be a part of the Retro Cafe Art Gallery design team.”
